“I still have a suitcase in Berlin”
– this was a famous song of Marlene Dietrich. We do not have a suitcase in Berlin but we have a friend living there. A former fellow student now lives in Berlin for her master studies of fashion design. We have planned severeal trips to Berlin since then but we never managed to meet up in the last 5 years. But this time we finally met again. And it was like we never parted. With some persons it does not matter how long you do not see each other. When you meet again it is just like last time you met was yesterday.
So it is with my friend. Tough the best was introducing my sons to her. Last time we met my oldest son was same age my youngest son is now. So somehow it is true that children show how fast time goes by. Our day in Berlin started with a visit of Madame Tussaud’s – I will write about it later on. Afterwards we met my friend and drank a coffee in a bakery shop. We decided on having a sight seeing tour with a bus. Especially because my friend did not manage to go on a sight seeing tour since she lives in Berlin. Somehow it is true that we often do not see what is right in front of our eyes.
But we had not expected that the station where we wanted to hop on the bus was not available due to the German church day. So we had a nice walk between the Brandenburg Gate and German Bundestag and back. So when we found a station to hop on a bus it actually was to late. But the advantage of having children is that children can be very persuasive. My son managed to get us a privat bus tour.
But the day started with a visit at Madame Tussaud. We wanted to go there last time when we were visiting Tristan but time was to short then. I booked the tickets online but unfortunately the online shop had some issues that weekend. So instead of the ordered tickets for two adults and one child we payed for 4 adults and 2 children. While the tickets I received via Email where just for the three of us but send twice (same reservation number twice for each ticket). Getting my money back took 5 weeks and two calls with the service. So my advice check your cart twice.
I have been to Madame Tussaud London once in my life at the age of 14. I remember the queues around the block and that we could not take pictures with a figure without accidently photo bombing by another visitor. So this was surprisingly better in Berlin but the Exhibition is smaller than I thougt it to be. But we had a lot of fun as the exhibition is more interactive than remembered. My son showed interest in Hamlet, my husband in politicians and athletes. And my highlight was Marilyn Monroe and Star Wars of course. So here are some impressions and my sketches in my traveling sketchbook.
